Kate & Dean's Kitchen Makeover
Kate and I originally tried a cosmetic fix with paint and fabric for her Fairfield kitchen, but we eventually decided to gut the kitchen
and start over.   I designed everything from scratch and changed the major appliance locations to better suit the space and we got
rid of the half wall blocking up the flow in the room.  I chose simple cabinets and streamlined pulls to coordinate with the Euro-Style
appliances.   I relocated the refrigerator to the right of the sink and chose a counter depth French door to nestle beautifully in the
corner. My favorite thing might be the Venta-a-Hood which reminds me of the top of a NYC skyscraper. The Carrera marble tile is
so elegant and a bright contrast to the rich dark wood cabinets.  I decided to go all around the kitchen window and loved the way
that turned out.  We knew we had enough natural light to manage truffle cabinets, cherry floors and chocolate counter tops without
being too dark.  The wall colors are white marigold with a white chocolate trim.  (lots of yummy adjectives are a good start for a
kitchen)

We matched the pendant light that we had for the bench seating and doubled it over the island.  We rounded the counter side of the
island to increase the seating space a bit.  I found sleek and curvy barstools to compliment our stylish kitchen.  Everything
exceeded our expectations and we were thrilled with the results.  This may be the first time I can describe a kitchen as sexy!

Kate contracted
Lloyd Mitchell from Mitchell Woodworking as her General Contractor and he was able to execute everything
without a glitch or a delay.  He was also able to build her a wonderful bench area and granite toped table (shown left) which I am in
the process of cozying up with some cushions, pillows and a simple valance for the window.
Most times I have to agree that "less is more".  However, this
seating area really came to life with some comfortable seat
cushions and modern Romo fabric pillows.  Kate wanted a
simple valance which I kept interesting by using the
complimentary fabric on the top and sides.  I hung it all the
way to the ceiling so we really did not lose any light and it
immediately gave height to the room.
